.GAY Domains are Changing the World!
June is Pride Month, but at .gay domains, Pride happens 365 days a year. Since the official launch of the domain in 2020, .gay has seen over 15,000 registrations and has generated over $167,000 in donations for its LGBTQ+ community beneficiaries GLAAD and CenterLink, through .gay’s built-in giving model.
“As COVID-19 swept the country in 2020, CenterLink was able to provide support to over 260 LGBTQ community centers who remained on the front lines, thanks in part to generous donations from DotGay,” said CenterLink CEO Denise Spivak. “We offered training and technical assistance, expanded resources, and regranted over $1.3 million back to our member network. Our member centers continued to offer critical services such as medical care, mental health counseling, virtual support groups, hot meals, shelter and housing, wellness checks, distribution of non-perishable foods and hygiene products, and employment counseling. We are deeply grateful for .gay’s partnership.”
But make no mistake: .gay is no ordinary domain extension. It is the first of its kind to directly support LGBTQ+ impact organizations through financial contributions from every .gay site registered – but it is also the first-ever domain extension to ban hate and discrimination entirely, through its .gay Rights Protections policy.
“I have a long history of being a publicly out, shamelessly gay person — in my life, music, the media — and I have experienced massive amounts of really gross, painful, homophobic abuse and trolling as a result.” .gay’s Creative and PR Director (and out musician) Logan Lynn continued, “This began really early on in my career and has continued for the better part of the past two decades. All of these years of navigating hate and bigotry online informed this belief I carry around that the internet doesn’t have to be a terrible, dangerous, disgusting place for LGBTQ+ people. With .gay, we are proving that theory out every day.”
Celebrate. Inspire. Support. Choose .GAY.
Now in its 3rd year as a brand, .gay is celebrating the diversity of the communities already using the domain, and is looking forward to seeing even more sites come online during Pride Month. From out celebrities like George Takei, Roxane Gay, and Billie Jean King, to gay musicians and bands like Foxx Bodies, Bright Light Bright Light, and Adam Lambert; From name brands like Calvin Klein, Atari, and Etro, to LGBTQ+ community groups like CenterLink, One N Ten, and the National LGBT Media Association, the .gay community is growing and thriving!
“The .gay platform is centered in gay joy and an unwavering belief in the inherent value of all LGBTQ people,” said Ray King, Top Level Design CEO. “Everything we do at .gay is about increasing visibility, providing support, as well as promoting dignity and helping to establish a baseline of safety and respect for these communities and their allies online.”
