Brexit: Update On .EU Domain Names
On March 28th, 2018, the European Commission issued a notice to stakeholders announcing that UK residents and organizations will no longer be eligible to hold .EU domain names following Brexit. This information is subject to any transitional arrangement, which is currently under ongoing negotiation between the United Kingdom and the European Commission.
EURid, the registry for .EU domain names, has published a Brexit action plan that covers two scenarios (see below photo) depending on either an agreed upon future withdrawal date, or if no clear deal is agreed upon by March 30th, 2019, for the exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union. At HEXONET, we are making preparations to enact either scenario as the United Kingdom and the European Union negotiate over the next month.
